About the book

In The History of the Adventures of Vivi and Vera by Dung Kai-cheung, two storylines intertwine: a family’s journey through time, and a character’s journey through a novelist’s imagined world. As these stories begin to touch, the author collapses the distances between reality and fiction, between experience and history, and between the techniques of art and the technologies that have remade everyday life. One City One Book Hong Kong is delighted to present one of Dung Kai-cheung's masterworks as its selection for 2024.

Vivi and Vera was first published in 2005. In 2018, an English translation by Dr Yau Wai-ping appeared. In 2023, the author released a revised version of the novel in the non-fungible token (NFT) format, making it the first NFT book in the history of Hong Kong literature. As a new technology, the NFT format is closely connected to the book’s themes, as Dung Kai-cheung's imaginative new preface makes clear.

About the picture book

My Museum by Joanne Liu bursts with vibrant colors as it portrays a boy’s enchanting experiences in a museum. Through the eyes of a child, we come to see that art is all around us. Whether it's the masterpieces inside the museum, the tattoos on other visitors, or the sunlight casting playful shadows on the floor, everything can be a form of art.

Similar to The History of the Adventures of Vivi and Vera, the protagonist of My Museum curates a personal museum filled with objects and experiences that evoke curiosity and hold personal meaning. This collection serves to document their unique story and reminds us that art can be created by anyone.
